Who is Pure and Simple Therapy?
Pure and Simple Therapy is the result of a dream to work in my own practice, providing essential mental health services to the community of Te Awamutu. I have always been a people person, and assisting others to live their best lives is a value that I find highly fulfilling and is at the heart of everything I do.
My name is Philip Brown and I have been a Registered Nurse for the last 29 years, working in a variety of teams within Adult Mental Health Services, including Nurse Educator for Adult MH; Team Leader for the Crisis and DBT teams; RN within the Adult MH Inpatient wards and as a Community MH Nurse. I have been a training facilitator for Blueprint for Learning (MH101 and Rural MH101).
I am currently a Clinical Nurse Specialist within a long established DBT Team and provide CBT as part of the Short Term Care Pathway with the MH Triage Team at Te Whatu Ora Waikato when I am not working in Pure and Simple Therapy.
Our mission
Our mission is to empower individuals to build resilience and wellbeing through evidence-based therapy, offering compassionate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) tailored to each person's journey.

Who we help
With 29 years of experience in a variety of adult mental health services, I am equipped to assist with complex situations. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) in particular, is designed for those with multiple complex circumstances with some aspects, such as the psychological skills taught, that can be incorporated into Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) sessions to provide a comprehensive approach to mental wellness.

Our approach
At Pure and Simple Therapy, we make therapy personal to you. Together, we will explore the areas where you are experiencing difficulties. We will develop a shared conceptualisation—an understanding of how and why things are the way they are for you at this time—and create a treatment plan that is uniquely yours to assist you to achieve your goals from therapy.
We are family centered and LGBTQI+ friendly - my husband and I have been married for 8 years now.
I am familiar with the intergenerational trauma experienced by a lot of New Zealander's and do my best to present a culturally aware and friendly service while understanding I am not Tangata Whenua having been born in the UK though I have lived in New Zealand for the last 55 years.
Ko Pirongia te maunga e korero ana ki toku ngakau
Ko Waikato te awa e whakamama ana i aku awangawanga
No te United Kingdom ahau
E mohio ana ahau ki nga tohu tuku iho, wairua hoki o Maihiihi e noho nei ahau
"Quite simply, I like people. You will not face any judgements from me. You can also expect honesty - I tell it like I see it while always being open and willing to change my approach to best suit your needs."
